Justin Matley, founder of Black Oak Sound, is an award-winning Post Sound / Re-Recording Mixer, Sound Designer, and Music Director & Supervisor who works on a plethora of television, film, radio, podcast, internet, and experiential-based projects for the broadcast, news, motion picture, and advertising industries. Along with individual accolades and nominations, his projects have won dozens of awards, including Academy, BAFTA, Emmy, Cannes Lion, Edward R. Murrow, and Promax awards, and are featured across international festivals, broadcast networks, and digital media worldwide. A two decade industry veteran, Justin takes pride in being an excellent problem solver, organized team player, and efficient creative executor.
Justin is also adjunct faculty at the University of Connecticut-Stamford and Western Connecticut State University, and is a News and Documentary Emmy voter. Serving his community, Justin is on the Board of Directors of local news website, Nancy on Norwalk; is the Founder of the local education organization, the Norwalk Parents Initiative; is on the Leadership Committee for the Norwalk Film Festival; and is on the Community Advisory Council for the School+State Finance Project. He's an avid Red Sox fan, skier, mediocre tequila drinker, amateur gardener, and lover of most things outdoors. Above all, his most important roles are as a husband and father to two amazing girls.

Chelsea Adams, Assistant Mixer, has a passion for music that has led her down the path to becoming a Sound Designer. As a percussionist she has explored how she can make various sound effects through the use of these instruments. Her goal is to create and design immersive and captivating works of sound that lure audiences into each sonic work. Chelsea approaches every project like it is a puzzle; every piece is unique and has to be placed in the right spot, and sometimes these pieces have to be created or reshaped.
Chelsea's focus is in project prep, recording and editing dialogue, sound effects and Foley, as well as editing music and doing final mixes. Through these skills, she has been able to bring worlds to life within film, television, animations, video games, and more.

Ben Kruse is a Sound Engineer that has worked across film, podcast and musical mediums for many years as a Sound Editor, Sound Designer, Sound Effects Editor, Re-Recording Mixer, Foley Editor and Composer. His passion lies in crafting intricate soundscapes representative of the nuanced emotional hues of various characters and spaces, with a particular passion for narratives centered around the Americas.
Though being completely immersed in the U.S. his roots are also firmly planted in the country of Bolivia, of which he is a citizen. He is fully bilingual in both Spanish and English and conversational in Portuguese. Moreover, Ben has a deep appreciation for community engagement and a strong passion for connecting with others. Most importantly, he holds a firm desire to promote collaborative efforts and engage in meaningful dialogues with fellow creators.
His pastimes include photography, watching soccer games (a lot of soccer games), singing and playing guitar, skiing, and looking at maps of the world.

We work closely with Producers and Directors across film and TV curating licensed music and / or connecting the project with composers to create custom scores.
